A teacher with a class of students

Find out more about our recent successful partnerships below.

Teachers Service Commission (TSC)

The TSC is responsible for managing teachers in all of Kenya’s public educational institutions (except universities). The TCS registers, recruits and employs teachers; they assign teachers to public schools and are responsible for the teacher’s professional development and performance. The TCS also advises national government on matters relating to the teaching profession.

The British Council in Kenya and the TSC have developed and piloted a Schools Leadership Programme. Currently the TSC and British Council are fundraising to scale up this pilot project.

National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC)

The NCIC promotes equality of opportunity, good relations, harmony and peaceful coexistence between persons of different ethnic and racial backgrounds in Kenya. The British Council has partnered with NCIC through its Active Citizens Programme to help young leaders engage their communities around the issues of social cohesion and integration.

This partnership was initiated after post election violence in 2007/2008.

The British Council, NCIC and Ministry of Justice are pursuing joint fundraising ventures to scale up the Active Citizens programme.
