Exam registration for private candidates
Step 1: Register for your exam
You can register online. The registrations close on 14 February 2025.

There is a normal registration period for each exam session. You may still be able to register for exams after this date, but you will have to pay a penalty fee. You can find more information about late registration penalty fees from your British Council office.
Step 2: Pay for your exam
Fees for all exams will be listed on the registration system. Your application will not be processed until you have paid for your exams in full.
Please note: All payments should include an additional KES 5400 per candidate to cover the KNEC fee. Payments made without KNEC fee will cause your application to be rejected.
Payment in full must be received before the registration deadline of 14 February 2025.
There are two ways you can pay:
1. Pay Online
We accept Visa and Mastercard credit and Debit cards only for payment. You will be directed to a secure payment page.
Once you have made the online payment, you will be required to make an additional KES 5400 KNEC fee per candidate at Standard Chartered Bank - any branch using British Council virtual account deposit slips. Instructions on how to complete the virtual account deposit slip are as below:
2. Pay by Cash Deposit at the bank
All cash deposit payments should be made at Standard Chartered Bank - any branch using British Council virtual account deposit slips.
Follow the instructions below to complete the virtual account deposit slip:

Ensure that your full candidate name is clearly indicated in the student name section. Your name must match the document (passport / Kenyan ID) that you used to register with.

Enter your Registration Reference Number.

Under Virtual Account Number please enter 9906113863629.

Step 3: Submit your registration
After making payment, you will be required to submit the following documents via email at information@britishcouncil.or.ke. To minimise delays you must include your Registration Reference Number in all communications.
- A clear passport sized photograph (not older than 6 months from the date of registration).
- A scanned copy of your payment slip including KNEC fee of KES 5400.
- A scanned copy of your identification document that you registered with (Passport, Kenyan ID or Birth Certificate for children under 18 years and dont hold passports).
- For candidates under 18 years, please attach a clear copy of Parent/Guardian's ID document (Passport/Kenyan ID).
Please note you will not be allowed to attend an exam if you have paid but have not completed the application and submitted this along with all required documents to the British Council for confirmation of your registration. All documents must be received before the registration deadline of 14 February 2025.
If you have submitted your online application and full payment (including KNEC fee) and haven’t received a confirmation message after two working days, please contact us at information@britishcouncil.or.ke or call us on +254 111 195 600.
Step 4: Receive your Statement of Entry
Once you have successfully registered for your exam with the British Council, you will receive your Statement of Entry and information about your examination venues approximately three weeks before your exams.
